Australia and US Forces complete Exercise Koolendong in the Northern Territory

Australian Army soldiers and US Marines from the Marine Rotational Force – Darwin (MRF‑D) have completed a live-fire, high-end warfighting exercise in the Northern Territory.
Exercise Koolendong was conducted at Mount Bundey Training Area from 21 to 29 August to enhance readiness, increase interoperability and strengthen regional partnerships.
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the annual, bilateral exercise demonstrates the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and US’ commitment to promoting common security interests in the Indo-Pacific.

Navy welcomes NUSHIP Stalwart

The Royal Australian Navy is another step closer to welcoming its new fleet of support tankers into service, following the successful launch of NUSHIP Stalwart at today’s ceremony in Ferrol, Spain.

The delivery into service of the Supply class replenishment vessels from next year will provide Navy with vital afloat logistics support to enable our ships to remain at sea longer.

Exercise KOWARI Starts in North Queensland

Exercise KOWARI, a trilateral military exercise between Australia, the United States and China begins in North Queensland today.
First held in 2014, the annual exercise encourages participating military personnel to work together in the Australian bush to conduct a series of training activities including hiking, sea kayaking, mountaineering and canyoning.
The Chief of the Australian Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO, said Exercise KOWARI was designed to strengthen cooperation between the three participating nations.

ADFA Open Day showcases military careers

Prospective trainee officers, family and friends and the local community descended on the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) today for the 27th annual Open Day.

Australia’s pre-eminent tri-service military training institution opens its doors each year in August for the public to discover what life and study at the Academy is like and view displays by the Navy, Army and Air Force.

Arrival of Final Falcon 7X

The Royal Australian Air Force welcomed the arrival of the third and final Falcon 7X aircraft to Australia as it completes part of a project to upgrade the Special Purpose Aircraft (SPA) fleet.

The Falcon 7X is an advanced business jet designed and manufactured by Dassault Aviation. It includes satellite communications to enable and support Government business while airborne.

Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Cath Roberts, Head of Air Force Capability, made an announcement at the arrival event about the partnerships between Industry and Defence.

Defence envisions a high-tech future based on skilled workforce

Defence has released its Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Workforce Strategic Vision 2019-2030 in Canberra as part of its celebrations marking National Science Week.

Chief Defence Scientist, Professor Tanya Monro, said the Department of Defence will collaborate with industry and academia to build the high tech workforce required to meet Australia’s future Defence and national security needs.

Australian tall ships welcome Chilean Navy to Sydney

Four Australian tall ships, including the Royal Australian Navy operated STS Young Endeavour, have welcomed Chilean Navy Buque Escuela Esmeralda to Sydney today.

STS Young Endeavour, James Craig, Soren Larsen and MV Martindale, accompanied by HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Diamantina met the 113-metre long four-masted barquentine outside Sydney Heads and escorted her into the harbour.
