Australia P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to enforce sanctions on North Korea

Next week Australia will deploy a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to Japan to conduct maritime surveillance in support of the international effort to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions on North Korea.
Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said the deployment supports Australia’s ongoing economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea.
“This is part of Australia’s commitment to deter and disrupt illicit trade and sanctions evasion activities by North Korea and its associated networks,” Minister Pyne said.

Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, and Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Steven Ciobo MP, today announced the opening of the facility at the BAE Systems Australia-owned shipyard.

Parade marks 70th anniversary of the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR)

The 70th anniversary of the raising of the Australian Army’s Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) was marked with a ceremonial parade at the Australian War Memorial today.

The revered Queen’s and recently updated Regimental Colours, featuring the 17 theatre and battle honours bestowed on the RAR, were on display with their respective Colour parties from the battalions of the regiment.

25 years of the Republic of Singapore Armed Forces training at RAAF Base Pearce

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) hosted Singaporean Senior Minister of State (Defence) Heng Chee How at RAAF Base Pearce today to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Republic of Singapore Air Force training at the base.

Australia and Singapore are close and longstanding partners, with shared interests in regional security and stability.

Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, RAAF Base Pearce, Wing Commander Brett Mitchell said Defence was pleased to be able to support the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s pilot training.

Governor-General visits Australian troops in Middle East Region

The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) as Commander-in-Chief, has visited Australian troops deployed to the Middle East region.

The visit took place in the lead up to the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which saw the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front.

The Governor-General acknowledged the ongoing service of Australian Defence Force personnel at home and abroad.

Royal Australian Navy Minehunters exercise with regional partners in North East

Two Royal Australian Navy Minehunters, HMA Ships Gascoyne and Huon, have completed a successful visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK), in their first deployment to the region in more than 70 years.

Participating in multi-national Mine Countermeasure Warfare activities, Gascoyne and Huon joined ships and contingents from 13 nations to share knowledge and improve cooperation between participating navies.
