Australian companies awarded development funding for innovative defence technology

Funding for cyber technology research

Defence is inviting research proposals from industry and universities to enhance the cyber capabilities of the Australian Defence Force.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said Australia must respond urgently to cyber threats which are becoming widespread and persistent.
“Malicious cyber activity costs Australian business and families over $1 billion every year, and malicious cyber activity from state and non-state actors is a threat to Australia’s national security,” Minister Pyne said.

Humanitarian Assistance to Lao PDR

The Australian Government is providing humanitarian assistance to support the Government of Lao PDR to respond to the collapse of a dam in Attapeu Province. Our thoughts are with the people of Laos affected by this tragedy.

Second Air Warfare Destroyer delivered

In a moving ceremony, Navy’s second Air Warfare Destroyer, Brisbane, has officially been handed over to Defence.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, attended the acceptance ceremony at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide.
Minister Pyne said Brisbane is the second of three ships being delivered by the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance which comprises the Department of Defence, Raytheon Australia, and ASC Shipbuilding supported by Navantia Australia.

On the road: New trucks for the ADF

The Australian Defence Force’s land capabilities will be further enhanced with the purchase of 1044 additional new-generation medium and heavy trucks, 872 modules and 812 trailers, worth $1.4 billion.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP said the additional medium and heavy trucks and their associated modules and trailers would facilitate logistics support through the movement of assets and supplies in combat, humanitarian, natural disaster relief and training.

Set sail with Young Endeavour

Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester is urging young Australians looking for an adventure out of the ordinary to apply for a voyage in Sail Training Ship (STS) Young Endeavour.
“A voyage in Young Endeavour gives participants skills for life and the chance to test themselves in a challenging new environment,” Mr Chester said.
“During the 11 day voyage, 16–23 year-olds disconnect from social media and learn communication, teamwork and leadership skills, which helps prepare them for the workforce.
