Australian Invictus Games 2018 team announced

Australia will field its largest ever team at this year’s Invictus Games to be held in Sydney.
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, today announced the combined Australian Defence Force and RSL team with 72 participants in this year’s games from 20–27 October 2018.
The Invictus Games is an international, adaptive multi-sports competition for current and former military personnel who have been wounded, injured or become ill during their military service.

Defence seeks innovative concepts to enhance stealth of unmanned aerial systems

Defence is inviting Australian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to submit proposals for new technologies to protect Australian small, fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) by making them harder to detect.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said this was another opportunity for SMEs to contribute innovative solutions to enhance Defence capability.

Three from three for HMAS Warramunga

HMAS Warramunga, currently deployed to the Middle East under Operation Manitou, has seized three separate hauls of illicit narcotics over three days, with a total value of approximately AUD$294.3 million*.

The boarding operations were conducted in international waters of the Arabian Sea from 3-5 June 2018.

The first seizure uncovered 3.3 tonnes of hashish from a suspect vessel. Warramunga’s Seahawk Romeo crew identified the second and third suspicious vessels carrying 2.6 tonnes and 40 kilograms of hashish.

Building partner capacity mission transfer to safe hands

Task Group Taji‑6 has completed a six-month deployment to the Taji Military Complex, training more than 5,675 members of the Iraqi Security Forces.

Commander of Task Group Taji‑6 Colonel Robert Calhoun said their Rotation had contributed significantly to the ongoing Build Partner Capacity mission.

“It has been a privilege to serve as part of such a unique Task Group. To be part of an integrated Task Group, serving in the same part of the world, and wearing the same patch, as our ANZACs did in 1915 is very special,” Colonel Calhoun said.
