Offshore Patrol Vessels

In November 2017 the Turnbull Government selected Luerssen as the prime contractor to supply 12 new Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Navy.
At the time, the Turnbull Government also asked Luerssen to explore options to leverage the wider shipbuilding experience base at Henderson in Western Australia, potentially opening an option for Austal to participate in the WA build program, subject to commercial negotiations.

Strengthening Australia’s SASR

The Australian Army’s Special Air Service Regiment has received a long overdue major infrastructure investment with the opening of their new headquarters and operations centre at Campbell Barracks in Perth.
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, said the new facilities marked the completion of the first phase of a $223.5 million four-year upgrade to the SASR’s home base at Swanbourne.

Disease forecasting system takes out National Innovation Awards

Showcasing our scientific research abilities, scientists from Defence and the University of Melbourne have won two innovation awards for disease forecasting at the CIVSEC 2018 Congress and Exposition earlier this month.
Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP congratulated the scientists and said the awards recognised a unique capability.
“This is an exciting development, which aims to predict the outbreak of disease so appropriate health management and prevention measures can be put in place,” Minister Pyne said.

Australian Army skills at Arms Meet 2018

Some of the best combat marksmen of the Navy, Army and Airforce were on display at the 2018 Australian Army Skills at Arms Meet (AASAM) hosted by the Combined Arms Training Centre at Bridges Barracks, Puckapunyal, Victoria.
Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester who attended the event said he was impressed by the competition which involves demonstrations of combat marksmanship and tactical drills from more than 20 different nations.
