Testing Completed For New Army Combat Vehicles (LAND 400)

Testing to support the selection process for the Army’s new Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) has finished on schedule.

Head Land Systems Division, Major General David Coghlan, congratulated the two shortlisted contenders, Rheinmetall and BAE Systems Australia, who have been involved in the year-long Risk Mitigation Activity (RMA) to help Defence choose the supplier of the new Mounted Combat Reconnaissance Capability.

Open Day to Showcase Australian Defence Force Academy

Australia’s pre-eminent tri-service military training institution, the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), will once again open its doors to prospective students and the local community on Saturday 26 August 2017.
Held annually on the last Saturday in August, ADFA’s Open Day provides the opportunity for secondary school students and their families to gain an insight into life as a Midshipman or Officer Cadet at the Academy as well as the military training and academic programs on offer.

Minister Congratulates Quickstep on Continued Success

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, congratulated Quickstep Holdings Limited on the manufacture and delivery of the 100th shipset of wing flaps for the C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft.
“The C-130J contract already supports 50 Australian jobs and Quickstep’s performance puts them in good stead to secure additional export work creating the potential for an expansion in its workforce.
“The contract with Lockheed Martin is to provide wing flaps for the C-130J up until 2019.

New Partnership Between Northrop Grumman Australia and Flinders University

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today welcomed the signing of a new co-operative agreement between Northrop Grumman Australia and Flinders University.
Northrop Grumman Australia and Flinders University have today signed an agreement to explore opportunities for internships, work experience and graduate programs for Flinders students. The agreement also encourages the participation of Northrop Grumman staff in education and training programs offered by Flinders.

Minister for Defence Industry and Minister for Finance – Government’s Investment in Naval Shipbuilding Infrastructure Taking Shape

The Government has today unveiled the design and turned the first sod for the new surface shipbuilding yard in Osborne, South Australia. This is the latest in a series of significant infrastructure announcements supporting the delivery of a continuous naval shipbuilding program in Australia.
The unveiling of the design for this $535 million project is an exciting insight into the future of Osborne’s shipyards that is a result of this Government’s $89 billion investment in our future shipbuilding industry.

New Laboratory Boosts Defence Research

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, congratulated Lockheed Martin on the first anniversary of operations of the Science, Technology, Engineering Leadership, Research Laboratory (STELaRLab), celebrated today in Melbourne, signifying their commitment to Australian innovation.
Minister Pyne said STELaRLab is the first research and development (R&D) facility established by Lockheed Martin outside of the United States, and will be the company’s national R&D operations centre in Australia.

Defence will invest in research into energetic materials and systems in a collaboration agreement announced today by the Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, which will help build Australian industry capability in the small business sector.
Defence Science and Technology (DST) and DefendTex signed a 30 month agreement today for research into energetic materials and systems.

Small Business Helps Build Naval Capability

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced a new research partnership to pursue innovative maritime Defence technologies.
Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group and Sonartech Atlas signed a three-year agreement today for research and development in Australian Defence Force (ADF) Naval capability for ships and submarines.
Minister Pyne welcomed this new partnership with Sonartech Atlas, signed in Adelaide as part of DST Group’s annual Partnerships Week.

New Research To Protect Defence Aircraft

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced a new research agreement with industry to explore innovative technologies for protecting Australian Defence Force aircraft against missile threats.
Minister Pyne said this five-year agreement with Chemring Australia was signed in Adelaide today as part of the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group Partnerships Week, and was a big step towards improving the countermeasures deployed to protect our aircraft.
